ADESANYA, Adesoji Olugbenga is a Research Professor with the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research, Ibadan. He is a World Bank Graduate scholar and an alumnus of the University of Ibadan, where he studied Geography and graduated in 1983, as well as Urban and Regional Planning (and graduated in 1986). His doctorate degree was obtained from Cardiff University (Wales, UK) in 1994.
Professor Adesanya has consulted for various national and international agencies including the International Labour Organisation where a prepared a background paper on ‘Meeting the Employment Challenges of the Nigerian Transport Sector’ for International Employment Summit in Abuja (April, 2009) and served as a Principal Investigator in a World Bank and Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development study on Rural Travel and Transport in South Western Nigeria in 1999-2000. He was a member of the National Committee on Non-Motorised Transport (2002), member of National Technical Working Group on Transport for Vision 20:2020 (May – August, 2009) and member of Transport Working Group of the National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan (2013).
He was a Member of the Academic Board, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Nigeria (August, 2004 -2006) and Associate Lecturer, former Centre for Urban and Regional Planning, University of Ibadan, Ibadan (2002-2006) and an Adjunct Professor of the Department of Transport and Tourism Studies, Redeemers University between 2012 and 2013. He still serves an Associate Lecturer at the Centre for Transport Studies, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye (starting from 1996). He is also an external examiner to several professional bodies and tertiary institutions including the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners and Town Planners Registration Council (TOPREC), Urban and Regional Planning Department of The Polytechnic, Ibadan (2002 to 2004), Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode (since 2009), and Federal University of Technology, Akure.
Professor Adesanya is currently the Head of Policy Engagement Division of NISER and Chairman of the South West Branch of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Nigeria. He is also a Member of International Cooperation for the Continuing Development of Urban and Suburban Transport (CODATU). His hobbies include collecting bottle tops, philately and swimming.
